A group of Westcountry Farmhouse Cheesemakers joined Ainsley and chefs, James Tanner and Garrey Dawson, last week on the set of Ready, Steady, Cook! They introduced the chefs and viewers to Westcountry Farmhouse Cheddar made famous this year by Wedginald (the star of http://www.cheddarvision.tv/). Taking part in the 'Quickie bag' section the group provided the chefs with some lovely local Westcountry ingredients to work with.
James Tanner had to create dishes in just ten minutes from Westcountry Farmhouse Cheddar, Denhay bacon, cider, apple, figs and a packet of filo pastry. He conjured up four lovely dishes including vanilla and cider poached figs with thyme yoghurt, fig and apple tart and a chargrilled apple, bacon and crouton salad with grain mustard vinaigrette. Not that we’re biased of course, but the best of the four creations had to be the filo pizza with fine Westcountry Cheddar, bacon and egg.
The group thoroughly enjoyed their day with Ainsley and his team, sharing their passion for the traditional art of cheesemaking, and giving people an insight into how award-winning cheeses are created by Westcountry Farmhouse Cheesemakers.
